First Fertility Tracking Sensor Bracelet Launched

Nearly 40 million Americans wear tracking sensor bracelets – typically, wearable technology has been widely used for fitness and exercise purposes. Now a new wearable technology product, recently approved by the FDA, aims to track fertility and ovulation cycles for women who are embarking on their journey to parenthood. The Ava fertility tracking bracelet claims to identify an average of five fertile days per cycle, which in turn can double women's chances of conceiving.

How does it work?

Ava is worn only during sleep and monitors nine different indicators that are subject to fluctuate during the windows of fertility – pulse rate, breathing rate, sleep quality, movement, and skin temperature are all tracked with Ava. Women can then check their results on an app that is linked to the bracelet. During a clinical study of the product, researchers found that Ava was able to detect 5.3 fertility days with 89% accuracy. The study’s findings were presented at the Swiss Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology Annual Congress and are set to publish in a reproductive health medical journal by the end of 2016. Unlike other fertility trackers on the market, the makers of Ava report that the bracelet can tell you when you’re most fertile in real time, while most other products notify women retrospectively.
