The Story Of Alex And Anna From Russia Alex and Anna initially contacted us through the Internet. They had been trying to get pregnant for two years and they were recommended to have IVF in Russia, but they wanted to come to the United States because they know that the medical system here is better. After reviewing their history and records on-line, we corresponded back and forth with several e-mails setting up their visit to the U.S. and when their IVF cycle would be. At the time that I was initially talking to them, the cause of their infertility remained unknown. I initially treated them with medication protocols used in Europe since the medications available in Russia were not available in the U.S. They began their medications as per my prescription given over the internet. When they arrived in Boca Raton for their initial consult, they were ready to begin their IVF cycle right away. Shortly after arriving here, we performed a semen analysis on Alex which revealed the cause of their infertility. His sperm had severely abnormal shapes and this was never picked up by the Russian laboratories. We immediately realized that they would require ICSI or intracytoplasmic sperm injection in order to become pregnant. We monitored Anna's eggs over the next several weeks with ultrasounds and blood tests. When the eggs were ready, we gave her an injection and then collected the eggs in the operating room in our office. We then collected a sperm sample from Alex. Using a specially designed microscope with microscopic glass needles, smaller than the diameter of a human hair, we individually injected each of her eggs with one of his sperm. We successfully achieved fertilization and transferred three embryos to Anna's uterus three days after fertilization. In the Bahamas, they had a pregnancy test which was positive. They were excited and relayed the news via Internet and fax to our office. They subsequently came back to the office for follow up ultrasound which showed that Anna was pregnant with a single baby! Since then they have returned to Russia and have e-mailed me saying how happy with the care they received and very happy they found me over the Internet. They now have a healthy little boy!!
