The Mystery of Unexplained Infertility

If you have had difficulty getting pregnant, you may consider working with a fertility specialist like Dr. Mark Denker of Palm Beach Fertility Center. After an initial consultation, Dr. Denker will want to schedule a complete fertility evaluation to determine the reasons for your trouble conceiving. In some cases, these tests may not pinpoint the exact issues, which can lead to a diagnosis of unexplained infertility.

So what is unexplained infertility?

Roughly 10 percent of couples are classified as having unexplained infertility because no definitive cause was identified through the fertility workup. Though you may feel frustrated by this diagnosis, Dr. Denker will work with you and your partner to find the best fertility treatment for your specific case.

Your options may include:

Fertility Medications

If you aren’t ovulating regularly, medications like Clomid can help increase the number of eggs released during a cycle, improving the odds of fertilization.

Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)

To give the sperm a better chance of reaching the egg, Dr. Denker may suggest IUI. After careful preparation, your partner’s sperm is released into your uterus via a catheter.

In-vitro Fertilization (IVF)

For IVF, your cycle is controlled through medication so that the eggs will be released at the optimal time. After retrieval, an embryologist will use your partner’s sperm to fertilize the eggs in the lab setting, which will hopefully result in viable embryos that can be transferred back to your uterus.

Don’t give up on your dreams of parenthood. While struggling to have a baby can leave you feeling discouraged, Dr. Denker has the expertise to offer help and hope.
