Diet Changes You Can Make To Help Increase Fertility

A study done by Harvard Medical School looked into the correlation between diet and fertility to determine whether certain foods helped or hindered ovulatory function. In this blog, we discuss the foods you should add to your diet to help increase fertility.

Complex Carbs

Bad carbs such as cookies, cakes, white bread, and white rice are digested at a quicker pace and the carbs are turned into blood sugar. In order to control the sudden spike in your blood sugar, the pancreas will work more than it normally does to create insulin. Good carbs that are high in fiber, such as fruits, vegetables, beans, and whole grains take more time to digest and therefore have a more controlled effect on your blood sugar and insulin.

Unsaturated Fats

Trans fats are found in many processed and commercial foods – French fries, animal products, some margarines, and snack foods all contain unsaturated fats which can increase insulin resistance. Insulin works to move glucose from the bloodstream to the cells, and a diet high in unsaturated fats can slow down the process, which results in higher levels of insulin in your bloodstream. High insulin levels can cause a number of disruptions in your metabolism which can affect ovulation.

Whole Milk

According to the study, Harvard researchers found that the more low-fat dairy products in a woman’s diet, the more trouble she may have getting pregnant. At the conclusion of the study, researchers recommended that women should consume one or two servings of full-fat dairy foods, such as yogurt, as opposed to non and low-fat dairy foods.
