Embryo Freezing & Cryopreservation
Preserve your embryos for future family-building with advanced vitrification technology
What is Embryo Cryopreservation?
Embryo cryopreservation is the process of freezing and storing embryos created during an IVF cycle for future use. At Palm Beach Fertility Center in Boca Raton and Aventura, we use vitrification—an ultra-rapid freezing technique that prevents ice crystal formation and maximizes embryo survival rates.
Frozen embryos can be stored indefinitely and thawed when you're ready for another pregnancy attempt. This allows patients to preserve their fertility timeline, plan multiple children from a single IVF cycle, or delay family building for personal or medical reasons.
With modern vitrification, embryo survival rates after thawing are excellent, and pregnancy success rates are comparable to fresh embryo transfers.
Benefits of Embryo Freezing
Plan Multiple Pregnancies from One IVF Cycle
Create sibling embryos without repeating ovarian stimulation and egg retrieval
Reduce Risk of Ovarian Hyperstimulation
Freeze all embryos and delay transfer if OHSS risk is high
Optimal Uterine Preparation
Frozen embryo transfer (FET) allows for controlled, ideal uterine lining development
Time for Genetic Testing
Freeze embryos while waiting for PGT results to select the healthiest embryo
Preserve Fertility During Medical Treatment
Freeze embryos before cancer treatment or other medical procedures
Long-Term Storage
Embryos can be safely stored for years or decades with no decrease in quality
The Vitrification Process
Embryo Evaluation
Our embryologists assess embryo quality and development stage (typically day 5 blastocysts)
Cryoprotectant Treatment
Embryos are treated with special solutions that protect cells during freezing
Ultra-Rapid Freezing
Embryos are plunged into liquid nitrogen at -196°C, freezing instantly to prevent ice crystals
Secure Storage
Embryos are stored in temperature-monitored cryogenic tanks with 24/7 security
Success Rates with Frozen Embryos
Thanks to advanced vitrification, frozen embryo transfer (FET) success rates are now equal to or even slightly higher than fresh embryo transfers. At Palm Beach Fertility Center, we see excellent outcomes with frozen embryos. Embryo survival rates exceed 98% after thawing using our advanced vitrification technology.
FET cycles also allow us to optimize the uterine environment, often resulting in better implantation rates compared to fresh transfers performed immediately after egg retrieval.
Storage Duration
Embryos can be safely stored for years or even decades. There is no time limit on how long embryos can remain frozen without affecting their viability.
