Embryo Grading in Boca Raton & Aventura

Embryo Quality Is Important to the Success of an IVF Cycle

At Palm Beach Fertility Center, we are committed to taking whatever measures are possible to improve your chances of a successful IVF procedure. There are many different factors that affect the IVF process and steps we can take to produce a successful outcome. Our fertility specialist, Dr. Mark Denker, believes that embryo quality is one of the most important factors in the in-vitro fertilization cycle. In our IVF lab at Palm Beach Fertility Center, we grade embryos differently depending on their stage of development.

Embryologists look at growing embryos on day three and day five after fertilization for the following:

  • Embryo growth on day three: When we grade embryos, we are looking for a specific percentage of fragmentation and cells as an indicator of the "best" embryos. On day three of embryo growth we use a descriptive system to grade the embryos using the following parameters:
    • Number of cells in the embryo
    • Amount of fragmentation, pieces of cell vs. fully formed cells
  • Embryo growth on day five: On day five of embryo growth the inner-cell mass (which forms the embryo) and the outer cell layer (which forms the placenta and membranes) are graded. Embryo expansion is graded on a 1 to 5 scale, with “5” being the best a fully expanded inner cell mass.

How Are Embryos Graded?

Dr. Mark Denker uses a traditional "A+" through “F” grading scale, similar to the grading system in schools. Examples of embryos grades include an excellent quality embryo at a 5AA, while a fair quality embryo is a 3BB.

Our high implantation rates are a direct result of careful attention to detail at every step during the IVF process. This careful attention insures your maximal chance for a successful pregnancy.

We go to great lengths for our patients’ success and comfort. To learn more, please reach out to our clinic at (888) 819-5177.
