Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT) in Boca Raton, Aventura & Palm Beach

Genetic Screening After the First IVF Cycle

At the Palm Beach Fertility Center we truly care about our patients and helping them to achieve a successful pregnancy. The most effective way to ensure that fertility treatments are effective and safe is to perform several different tests before transferring embryos.

PGT Procedure

After you have completed an IVF cycle, one cell from each of the fertilized embryos is tested for the DNA mutation responsible for the conditions. It is currently possible to check for over 100 genetic disorders, including cystic fibrosis, sickle cell anemia, Tay-Sachs disease, Huntington disease, hemophilia, and some types of leukemia. Additionally, we test for the presence of the X and Y chromosomes, which allows us to determine the sex of the embryo.

PGT allows us to test embryos for genetic disorders before performing the transfer. This is especially helpful for expectant parents whose child is at high risk of inheriting a genetic defect.

A few examples of this are if one or both of the parents has:

  • A genetic disorder
  • A family history of them
  • A child with a birth defect or other condition

Performing PGT in Our State of the Art Lab

PGT can only be performed on embryos in-vitro, in a laboratory. That means this test is always performed in conjunction with an in-vitro fertilization cycle. In-vitro fertilization medication is given to stimulate the production of multiple eggs. At Palm Beach Fertility Center, we are proud to boast one of the most advanced laboratories, staffed by exceptionally professional and trained technicians.
